What is college Rush?
foam hands College Rush is a period of time for prospective members to visit a college fraternity or college sorority and gather information about its membership. Generally college rush begins in Spring and continues through the second or third week of the Fall college semester. Spring College Rush begins in October, and continues through the first couple weeks of the Spring college Semester.

How does college Rush work?
First and foremost, college fraternities and college sororities want to provide you with every bit of information you might want to know. College Rush is a great time to ask about a college fraternity or college sorority, so go prepared with questions. Additionally it is good to meet as many of the members as possible during rush. Getting to know the members is the best way to get a feel for the bond that they share. After you get the chance to meet a majority of the chapter and you have attended several parties or functions, you will receive a bid from Rush Captains. The bid is basically a formal invitation to join.

What happens after your accept your bid?
The Member program begins when college rush is completed. The class is assigned a Member Councilor who is charged with educating the new members about the college fraternity or college sorority throughout the semester. Additionally, each new Member picks a Big Brother or Sister who will be a mentor throughout the pledge semester.

Why Should You Rush at college?

College Academics
College fraternities and college sororities should place a very strong emphasis on the academics of its membership. They should be proud to rank among the top college fraternities and college sororities in GPA rankings. The house should offer various academic resources like a study room, house computer lab, teacher evaluations sheets and Ethernet. College fraternities and college sororities should convey how important for new members to have a strong focus on academics, and require members to attend 12 study hours a week at an college campus library. While going through the associate member program academics should always take top priority over any other activity because college fraternities and college sororities feel strongly about members keeping a strong GPA.

College Social Life
The college fraternity or college sorority usually host some of the best parties on the college campus. Every fall, a party should be planned to draw thousands of people. Some have parties at the frat or sorority house about every other weekend, and host an out-of-town formal every semester. Each semester, they can have mixers, date parties, barbecues, or tubing trips. Some also have block seating for all home football and basketball games, and host pre and post game parties. Whenever you do party it should be done in a responsible manner and drinking should be kept a minimum for the safety and integrity of the college organization.

College Leadership
College fraternities and college sororities should always have a major presence in campus leadership roles. They should encourage new members to get involved in several college campus activities, from clubs, to sports, to Interfraternal Council. Members can be involved in various college organizations throughout campus. Some have an excellent reputation on campus as being a group of men and women of integrity, honesty and trustworthiness who are extremely involved in all campus organizations.

College Athletics
College fraternities and college sororities can be very competitive in intramural sports on campus. Some field teams include college football, softball, basketball, soccer (indoor and outdoor), field hockey, golf, tennis, and volleyball. Many take sports teams very seriously and always compete on the level of league competition. Many have teams who consistently reach the playoffs in each of these college sports are a proven source of pride for the chapter. Many also like to get together on the weekends to play softball as a chapter or have a volleyball tournament.

What should a college fraternity or college sorority feel like?
A college fraternity or college sorority should feel like a "home away from home," the house should provide a great place to socialize, watch TV, shoot pool, throw darts, or just hang out with your friends. It is a good place to be creative and incorporate fun theme parties into the mix.
