Frogs have a big mouth, and a really big
squeak. Pretend to look like a real live frog, but bigger.
Have a frog hopping relay race.
FROG and TOAD necklaces -- cut a small round of wood with holes drilled in the top
(a dad can make up a bunch of these prior to the gatherings). Use dried alphabet pasta and
let the children find the word FROG and/or TOAD. Glue to the wood, put a string through the rounds
(the kids can add beads or colored pasta to the string to expand the craft. An alternative
to wood rounds is rounds cut from Styrofoam meat trays, they won't last as long, but
they're a lot easier to get.
FROG and TOAD bracelets -- Cut the bottom of a plastic 1 Liter pop or water bottle. Cut 1 or 2
inch rounds off the bottle (bracelets) -- one bottle will make 5 or more bracelets. Paint
green, write FROG and TOAD on with permanent marker or let the kids stick alphabet stickers on to
spell FROG and TOAD.
FROG AND TOAD decorations -- You can decorate everything looking like a pond, with the long
grass and lily pads and etc. Frog bean bags are a good craft and all you need is scrap
material and big beads for the eyes the more colorful the frogs are the more interesting
they become. Add green cookies shaped as lily pads and if you can find a small mold of
frogs you can place a chocolate frog on top. Use corn dogs to resemble cat tails,
like those at a pond. If you are having a punch bowl you can make ice
cubes with flies or
frogs frozen inside or floating on top.
FROG AND TOAD puppets -- Take a sheet of green construction paper - fold it in thirds long ways -
then fan fold it into fourths so that it looks like a "W" - Small children
should be able to put their hand into the top and bottom openings and make it talk like a
puppet - then add two big eyes - bottle caps, marshmallows, paper circles, stickers, etc.
- in the middle mouth section - glue a long red tongue - curl it on a pencil to make it
roll up - use yarn, crepe paper, even a sticky fruit roll up will work - This should make
a cute, simple hand puppet and have the kids make frog noises.
