Kids, when you are entertaining party guests in your home, you are the
party host or
party hostess. Much of the success of the party will depend on the way you act. If you are
happy and at ease, your party guests will be happy and at ease also, and everyone will have a
good time. As party host or party hostess, you are also the master of ceremonies. You announce the
party games and tell how to play them. You must be sure that no party guest is left out of any party game.
In a game that calls for choosing, see that each player has a turn. Try to have some party games
in which every player has an equal chance to win. some of your party guests will be good at
guessing games, others at running games, Try to have different kinds of party games to satisfy
all party guests.
You must decide how long to play a party game. If everybody is happy, there is
no reason why you should change to another party game just because it is on your program. But if
some of your party guests would rather play something else, you should, as a party host or party hostess let
them have their way.
It is better to have many small inexpensive party favors or prizes than a few expensive
ones.
There are many ways in which to reward party game winners. For example, if you are giving
balloons for high scores in races, you may let the winners have first choice of colors. Or
the winners may be given first place in line to enter the dining room when the
refreshments are served. Again, the winners may lead a grand march, or the winner of one
party
game may be the leader in the next. If you give any prizes at all, every guest, even if he
has not won a prize, should have some little party favor to take home as a souvenir of the party.
As your party guests arrive, welcome them at the door and show them where to put
their coats. Perhaps one of your friends or some older person may help you. Your assistant
might start one of the party games while you are greeting late arrivals.
Even the happiest party must come to an end sooner or later. You can't
very well tell your guests to go home, especially if they are still having fun. But
the invitations have told when the party should end. As the time draws near, you can break
up the party by saying, "We have time now for just one more party game."
As each guest leaves, bid him/her good-bye and thank you with a smile. Don't forget to thank
your parents for their part in making your party day a happy one. Then help them with the
party clean
up.
